Welcome to LoullyMakes
- an online emporium of meaningful accessories, lovingly handmade in Scotland.
Let me say "Hello!" and introduce myself - I am Louise Nicolson ( aka Loully, to friends ! )
Originally taught to sew at home by my Mum, pattern, print and texture have remained the enduring focus of my creativity, and since graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles, I have relished a spectrum of retail experience from youthful days with Liberty of London, to the ongoing successes of our family-run Highlandwear business, Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers.
Inspired with such glorious traditional fabrics at my fingertips, LoullyMakes was borne from a combined need to utilise our kiltmaking remnants, reduce waste and to let creative ideas become reality.
Here I offer a focused range of beautiful, useful pieces that I love to wear myself and to have around me, day-to day.
Each simply constructed design is the result of my own insight and development. Each item is carefully handmade by our small, skilled team, here in Scotland.
Select individual pieces are available from our family business, Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers and on occasion you can also find me selling from Artisan Fairs or a "Pop-Up Shop". #GNKfamily

Description
Classic Cowl in our own exclusive Flodden Commemorative Tartan with Liberty Print tana lawn cotton lining.
Simply select your choice of coloured lining from the drop-down menu.
(The example cowl pictured here features lining 6)
This easy-to-wear cowl combines effortless styling and sublime warmth, being formed from a simple superfine cotton lined “tube” of 100% wool Flodden Tartan. Simply pop over your head and wear the cowl high, to keep out the chill, or roll over the neckline to feature a flourish of an iconic art fabric.
The Flodden Tartan was designed by Gordon Nicolson in 2013 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden, where King James IV led the Scots against the armies of King Henry VIII and became the last reigning British Monarch to die in battle.
This cloth commemorates those who fought, those who died on both Scottish and English sides of the battle in 1513, as well as acknowledging the far-reaching effects of the battle for the generations who followed.
The colours woven here will forever lock together the two sides involved in the battle which took the lives of so many and devastated the lives of so many more for generations;
Red & Gold – represent the Lion Rampant of Scotland,
Green & White – represent the English Tudor colours,
Grey & Brown – represent the ground they fought for and where those defeated still lie.
Flodden Commemorative tartan is woven by Lochcarron of Scotland.
“A modern masterpiece of production, Tana Lawn™ cotton is the perfect canvas to display Liberty Fabrics’ most iconic prints. This is a cotton that behaves like silk – ultra-fine, with a fluid hand-feel and intense depth of colour that is truly unmatchable. An everyday marvel of a dress material, Tana is soft yet durable, cooling yet warming, and even machine washable.”
