My family has been making & crafting ever since I can remember. Both my parents knitted, my Mum was a champion baker, my older sister sews and I have dabbled in various crafts & hobbies before settling on crochet. Many products are one off products, made from my parents impressive wool stash or oddments I've found in various sale buckets or things my family have made down through the years. Other items are newly made because I liked the patterns or the yarn.
Our range goes from simple accessories such as headbands, cowls and fingerless mittens, through cushions and rugs to one off statement pieces created by my Dad for my Mum.
If you are looking for something a bit different, hand made with quality yarn, that's not mass produced, then we might have something for you.
Commissions can be arranged, but may require a non refundable deposit.
Typically items are made in either wool or cotton, being an eczema sufferer I avoid man made fibres wherever possible. Therefore, most items will require handwashing, re shaping and drying flat.
Please note, I have a cat who adores "helping" me with my crochet & while I thoroughly wash everything and it is stored in sealed bags before sending it out, I cannot guarantee that no pet hair will be present, so please bear in mind when ordering for anyone with pet allergies.
Description
I love this pattern, it’s so simple but it creates such a lovely product, especially when using the beautiful Malabrigo yarn recommended by the patterns’ author, @littledoolally.com. Malabrigo Worsted yarn is 100% Merino wool and is kettle dyed in small batches, so no two items will be exactly alike.
I call it the Plush Cowl, because it feels so warm and squishy and luxurious. I’ve tried out various lengths, heights and a couple of different yarns, but generally come back to the original size and yarn combination in the pattern.
During lockdown I was struggling to get any new colours of the Malabrigo yarn I make it with, so I tried the Wild Shetland Limited Editions from West Yorkshire Spinners, who specialise in UK wool. This set of 4 Limited Edition colours, (Fired Earth, Turning Tides, Stormy Skies, Rolling Hills), were designed to reflect the wild and rugged beauty of the Shetland Islands and create a lovely banded effect in this cowl.
I also tried a couple of other yarns, which are In This Together and Moonage Daydream, which are Merino yarns hand dyed by an independent UK dyer/producer, and Shades of Blue from a larger mainstream yarn supplier.
Typical Dimensions are 30-35cm diameter by 12-15 cms height, but there are a few that are different sizes, so please check the detail at colour level.
Handwash woollen items in wool specific detergent, reshape whilst damp and dry flat.
